Dr. Christakos grew up in southern Illinois and became passionate about horses early, beginning with riding lessons at age 10 and progressing to eventing at preliminary level before moving to Colorado in 2004 to begin her undergraduate education. Dr. Christakos completed her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees at Colorado State University. She then completed her internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center after graduation.
Dr. Christakos has remained with LEqMC since completion of her internship in June of 2013, working closely with Dr. Terry Swanson to further her skills in lameness and performance horse practice. She became certified in Equine Veterinary Medical Acupuncture in the spring of 2014. Dr. Christakos has focused her continuing education on musculoskeletal imaging and advanced lameness courses. Her areas of focus at LEqMC are lameness/sport horse practice and musculoskeletal ultrasound but she also enjoys general practice, acupuncture, and emergency field work.
Dr. Christakos has been an FEI treating veterinarian since 2015 and gained her status of FEI Official Veterinarian in Eventing in 2018. She also has served on the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association Board of Directors since 2017 as secretary/treasurer elect.
When she is not working, Dr. Christakos enjoys riding her thoroughbred gelding, hiking 14ers, snowboarding, and hanging out with her husband Ty and their dogs Hank and Maggie.
