What can cause ulcers in the mouth?

mouth ulcersUlcers commonly occur on horse’s cheeks and tongue due to sharp enamel points on the teeth.

As your horse’s teeth erupt, they slowly wear down the chewing surface by grinding forage.

Because the upper jaw is wider than the lower jaw, sharp enamel points form on the outside edge of the uppers and the inside edge of the lowers.

Ulcers commonly cause issues with the bit or bridle in performance horses.  Ulcers on the soft tissues of the mouth can easily be resolved or ideally prevented by removing the sharp points with a float.
